AECOM is seeking a Transportation Planning Intern to be based in Chicago, IL.

This position is expected to begin in June 2023.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Supports planning studies and reports for new and updated plans and programs.
• Collects a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics, such as census information, land use, transit demand, roadway network, crash records, and asset inventories. Works with the planning team to conduct equitable public outreach, preparing materials and presentations
• Analyzes data and prepares detailed maps for use on thematic maps and in reports.
• Conducts concept-level evaluation of transit/transportation improvement options.
• Documents and presents findings on transit/transportation planning projects.
• Research current transportation-related topics at local, State, and Federal levels.
• Assists with other duties assigned by senior staff and/or Project Managers.
• This position will involve planning and project development activities for transportation projects under the supervision of more senior staff.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Pursuing a degree in Urban Planning, Transportation, Geography, Public Policy, Civil Engineering, or related area of study
• Must have completed 1 year of study
• Due to the nature of work, US Citizenship is required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Solid proficiency with Microsoft Office, including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with access and/or Power BI is desirable but not required.
• Knowledge of using GIS for spatial analysis
• Knowledge in developing and presenting illustrative reports and graphics utilizing Adobe CS or other graphics software packages.
• Familiarity with MicroStation or AutoCAD is desirable but not required. Demonstrated interest in multi-modal transportation planning and analysis, including analyzing and recommending solutions for urban transportation issues
• Analytical skills to interpret research data for reports and apply statistical techniques in practical situations
• Oral communication and interpersonal skills to explain planning concepts clearly to clients and the public
• Presentation skills to synthesize data and research into compelling reports and graphics
• Excellent writing skills for documenting research, analysis and recommendations in project memos, briefings, and reports, consistent with accepted guides such as Chicago Manual of Style, MLA or APA
• Strong attention to detail and habits of quality review/checking
