Description:
We are seeking a paid Public Affairs Intern for the Fall 2022 semester with the possibility to extend into a longer time period. The intern will work with for Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC (PPMW), a 501(c)(3) organization, and in conjunction, the individual will also serve as an intern for PPMW's affiliated 501(c)(4) advocacy organization, Planned Parenthood Advocates for DC, Maryland, & NoVa (PPADMV). At no time will the intern engage in partisan political activity on behalf of PPMW, though at times the role will involve this type of activity on behalf of PPADMV. The intern will assist with projects related to public policy, social media, newsletters, events and other duties as needed.
The Public Affairs Intern will report to the Public Affairs Manager. The candidate should have a strong commitment to reproductive health, rights, and justice. Diverse applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
Requirements:
- Conduct policy research on legislative and regulatory issues on and related to reproductive and sexual health care in DC, Maryland, and Virginia
- Produce written content of on current news and events for PPMW and PPADMV such as newsletters, blogs and social media
- Availability as needed for staff events, hearings, rallies, and other Planned Parenthood activities
- Collaborate with organizing, communications, and other PPMW and PPADMV teams
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Undergraduate or graduate student interested in public affairs, political science, public policy, and reproductive health, rights, and justice
- Knowledge of and a strong commitment to reproductive health and rights, as well as PPMW and PPADMV's mission and goals
- Able to commit a minimum of 16-20 hours per week
- Excellent written/oral communication and organizational skills
- Experience with policy research, advocacy, and as it relates to PPADMV and electoral work is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, social media, Google Drive, and ability to learn new software platforms
