The Aspen Institute Energy and Environment Program (EEP) explores significant challenges with diverse thinkers and doers to make a more prosperous, equitable, and sustainable society for all. We address critical energy, environmental, and climate change issues through non-partisan, non-ideological convening, with the specific intent of bringing together diverse stakeholders to improve the process and progress of policy-level dialogue. This enables EEP to sit at a critical intersection in the conversation and bring together diverse groups of expert stakeholders. In addition to energy and environmental policy, which the program has been addressing for several decades, EEP is now actively and purposefully engaging in climate change policy - mitigating the effects of climate change, adapting to the inevitable impacts of climate change, and the international cooperation needed to achieve these goals.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

EEP seeks a creative, motivated, and development intern from mid January 2023- mid May 2023 (exact dates subject to negotiation). The intern will support the Senior Development Associate in the following areas:

• Conduct prospect research to gather important information on major philanthropies, private and public sector funders, and high net worth individuals, including which organizations they have funded previously, short biographies of board members and key decision makers, and their strategic goals for funding climate initiatives;

• Create research briefs on philanthropic trends, such as new climate funding pledges, upcoming events organized by climate donors, sustainability initiatives, etc., to identify funding opportunities for current and future EEP programming;

• Support EEP with other administrative tasks including data entry, proposal writing and research, as necessary.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Current or recent college student interested in climate change and/or nonprofit fundraising;

• Ability to utilize discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information;

• Excellent communication, written communication, organizational, and time management skill;

• Familiarity with internet research techniques; willingness to learn how to use new resources;

• Interest in research and problem solving;

• Ability to work well independently and with others;

• Self-starter who is motivated to excel with both small and large tasks;

• Proficiency in Google Suite and Outlook.

Hours: Part-time, approximately 20 hours per week (negotiable)
