SALARY

$29.02 per hour

Working Hours and Union Representation

This position entails a standard 40-hour work week, with occasional requirements for weekday evening shifts and one weekend day. Additionally, flexibility to work select holiday mornings is expected. This role is a unionized position, represented by Local 8 of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU).

The Community Specialist (CS) plays a pivotal role in supporting Plymouth residents within a team-oriented environment. The primary focus is on maintaining top-tier service delivery in alignment with Plymouth's mission, emphasizing cultural proficiency, harm reduction, trauma-informed care principles, and the 'housing first' philosophy. The CS also undertakes the responsibility of educating new residents on building operations and expectations. Additionally, they form an integral part of an onsite Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) team dedicated to enhancing resident well-being, fostering a sense of community, safety, and belonging.

Plymouth Housing is a non-profit organization with apartment buildings throughout King County helping the most vulnerable members of our community leave homelessness behind forever. At Plymouth, we're not simply trying to get people off the streets. We provide supportive services like case management and health care so that our residents can thrive long-term. As part of our strategic vision, we are building internal behavioral health services and transforming our systems to address rapid growth and the changing needs of residents.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO BE DOING IN THIS ROLE AT PLYMOUTH HOUSING

  • Collaborate with tenants, building staff, and partners to identify and organize culturally relevant activities both within and outside the building premises.
  • Develop and maintain an activities calendar, overseeing the planning and execution of events.
  • Actively engage residents to participate in community-building initiatives.
  • Facilitate new resident orientation programs, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment while aiding in their acclimatization to the building and fostering relationships with staff and fellow residents.
  • Procure necessary materials and supplies for events, including maintaining a stock of "welcome baskets" for new tenants.
  • Coordinate food distribution during events.
  • Cultivate respectful and trusting relationships with tenants.
  • Arrange transportation for resident groups using company vehicles.
  • Schedule community bus services or transportation for local shopping and destination trips.
  • Employ conflict resolution techniques and crisis intervention strategies as needed.
  • Assist in addressing resident complaints and concerns, escalating issues to the Residential Services Manager when necessary.
  • Distribute informational materials to residents, ensuring accessibility for individuals with language differences, cultural disparities, visual impairments, or other specific needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma GED certification or an equivalent combination of relevant work experience.
  • Valid Washington State Driver License with fully insurable driving record.
  • Two (2) years' experience working in the human services field, preferably with low-income, diverse, homeless, and special needs populations.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care and de-escalation is desired.
  • Experience coordinating events is desired.
