Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Counsel for Privacy, Technology and Artificial Intelligence Attorney!

About the role

We're looking for a senior counsel with privacy law expertise, particularly in the financial services industry, litigation and regulatory experience is a plus. As a Senior Counsel you will assume responsibility for various client groups and/or legal issues. This position requires a solid foundation of life insurance and/or corporate law. Attorney will also be responsible for product development and overseeing day-to-day legal and compliance matters.

What you will do

  • Must have in-depth knowledge of pertinent financial service laws involving insurance, including the insurance state and federal regulatory framework, privacy, technology and artificial intelligence laws.
  • Responsible for interaction with clients, including senior management, on various legal issues, including those of a complex nature.
  • Specific area of law and responsibilities will depend on division or area of law that is being supported in company.
  • Draft and review variety of contracts, particularly in areas of privacy, technology and artificial intelligence.
  • Assist in analyzing new product ideas or complex corporate projects.
  • Provide advice from operational and/or shared services regarding legal issues.
  • Research and provide timely advice on applicable legal issues.
  • Participate in management and other meetings.
  • Direct other legal analysts.
  • Work well in cross-functional teams and be accountable for advice and meeting deadlines.

Compensation

Salary Range: $146,800 - $244,700 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Who you are

  • privacy, technology, and artificial intelligence law expert with a firm financial services regulatory background.
  • Juris doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • 5 to 10 years of in-house or industry legal experience, with at least 2-3 years of private practice experience.
  • Requires experience advising life insurance company clients. Industry or specialty experience requirements will depend on particular division or area of responsibility that will be supported.
  • Bar admission required.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects effectively.
  • Ability to work on complex legal issues.
  • Ability to deal effectively with clients, including senior management.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of pertinent laws, including insurance, working knowledge of products, with solid foundation of knowledge of insurance industry or corporate law.
  • Responsible for interaction with clients, including senior management, on various legal issues, including those of a complex nature.
