DEPARTMENT: Seattle White Center

POSITION TITLE: COOK

STATUS: Regular Full-Time/Non-exempt

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Corps Officers and Operations Manager

FUNCTION OF POSITION

Responsible for planning, preparation and serving of meals; as needed for corps and community center programming.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Responsible to the Corps Officer and Operations Manager

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. An understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army's mission, philosophy and practices
  2. Experience as a cook, in menu planning, purchasing, and food service
  3. Ability to accurately figure costs of meals.
  4. Ability to work independently with good judgment
  5. Current food handlers certificate
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Plan nutritious meals using food that is donated, commodities or purchased.
  2. Handle the purchasing of food as needed
  3. Process paperwork necessary to purchase items through the bookkeeping department.
  4. Supervise senior volunteers as kitchen helpers and servers
  5. Supervise kitchen employees
  6. Oversee the cleaning of the kitchen to be sure that Public Health Department regulations are followed
  7. See that the kitchen is maintained in a safe manner
  8. Oversee the proper storage of food and supplies
  9. Work with Senior Center Director to plan meals for special events (i.e. Thanksgiving, Mothers Day etc.) and monthly menus.
  10. Work with Social Services Director to determine what product may be used for program.
  11. Responsible for Homework Center snack and special Corps functions.
  12. Any other duties related to the running of the meal program that may be assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  2. Must be able to grasp and have full range of motion in fingers and hands.
  3. Must have the ability to withstand warmer than average temperatures.
  4. Must have the ability to read and comprehend the English language.
  5. Must have 50% hearing capabilities.

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area. Life and Voluntary Options. An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.

Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months' service time.
