Title: Research Associate
Job Class: Salary/Exempt, Full-time, $5,833-$6,000/month
PI/Reports To: Dr. John Neumaier

At the Seattle Institute for Biomedical and Clinical Research (SIBCR), scientists seek new ways to improve the health and well-being of Veterans through research and education conducted at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System and Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center.

Summary:

We are seeking a research associate with PhD or equivalent degree who has extensive experience in mouse and rat neurobiology and behavior.

Responsibilities:

Methods will include stereotaxic surgery, viral vector manipulation of gene expression, working with crossing lines of transgenic mice, and behavioral pharmacology experiments including conditioned fear responses, pain sensitivity, memory, social behavior, and emotional behaviors related to mood and anxiety.

Position Requirements:

Experience in analyzing stress behaviors including innate emotional behaviors such as ultrasonic vocalization or social interaction is preferred. Familiarity with modern genotyping methods as well as RNA analysis methods such as in situ hybridization histochemistry is an important asset.

Knowledge and Experience:

The position involves managing junior researchers' contributions to research projects and data analysis and interpretation. The successful applicant must have excellent writing skills, an established track record of publications, and experience in assisting with grant writing.
