This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Facilities, and Security. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will you will help us integrate, test, and document the assembly of a custom machine tool and all its related subsystems. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of additively manufactured spaceflight and supporting hardware, continuous improvement, automation, and process development in this innovative industry. This position is very hands-on and multifaceted so flexibility, attention to detail and eagerness to learn are core components of your professional career.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manufacture, assemble, and test custom machine hardware according to written procedures, engineering models, work orders, drawings, and specifications
  • Setup new production work areas, including tooling and equipment
  • Perform second-party verifications and hardware inspections of engineering models, drawings, specifications, and written procedures
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, fix and correct malfunctions by modification, rework, repair, and/or maintenance
  • Disassemble and assemble machine tool subsystems and assemblies containing components such us motors, pneumatic actuators, optical assemblies, pipe fittings, linear rails, ball screws etc
  • Operate various material handling equipment including forklifts, overhead cranes, aerial lifts, flight vehicle and subassembly transportation equipment
  • Modify subassemblies and machine parts using a variety of shop tools including milling and lathe machines
  • Setup and operate a wide range of precision calibrated tools including, but not limited to, torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, laser tracker, height gauges and optical measuring instruments
  • Supervise and lead various projects as required, assign work to teammates
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement projects for area safety and efficiency
  • Lead, train and guide lower level employees
  • Maintain and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and proactively identify any related shortcomings
  • Perform routine maintenance functions such as daily clean-up of work areas to support 5S, FOD, and ESD

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in aerospace manufacturing, integration, or other large/complex assembly manufacturing environment
  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience
  • Interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, test procedures and P&IDs
  • Experience integrating mechanical sub-assemblies related to optomechanical systems, pumps, electromechanical motion axis, pneumatic actuators and valves, servo motors
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts around critical hardware
  • Experience using common assembly and integration tools
  • History of delivering results: resourcefulness, attention-to-detail, and process ownership
  • Ability to show technical process thinking and an eye for process improvement
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs, and work in small or restricted areas
  • Ability to lift items up to 40 lbs
  • Must possess initiative, a strong work ethic, and the ability to follow direction
  • Experience with verbal and written communication of technical data, results, and associated tools (confluence, MS-Office suite)
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry certification, trade school training and/or degree in related field
  • Work effectively with a strong work ethic and close attention to detail in a fast-paced dynamic team environment with rapidly changing roles and responsibilities
  • Experience in fluids and panel building
  • Experience in instrumentation and electrical
  • Experience in laser tracker operation
  • Experience in assembling large tight-tolerance structures
  • Experience in new product introduction
  • Experience in a team-based Lean Manufacturing environment
  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma certification

Compensation range for on site WA applicants is$42.47-$59.45
