Summary

This position assists and supports the site EHS manager, department managers, and all employees in effectively developing and implementing safety programs, practices, and procedures to reduce the frequency / severity of injuries. To work with and assist management to ensure proper safety orientation, annual and periodic training, auditing of such programs and to verify that all required documentation are maintained in accordance with CMA and other regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist and support development, implementation, follow up, and analysis of corporate safety policies, procedures, requirements, and initiatives.
  • Assist in assessing and prioritizing the safety needs of the facility and determine the level of personal involvement needed to complete required safety functions.
  • Conduct monthly department safety inspections/audits in conjunction with facility management, document the results, and work with the respective groups to improve overall safety in their departments.
  • Assists facility management in developing corrective actions for identified hazards, implementation of corrective actions, tracking to completion in the facility safety management system, and providing follow up as needed until conclusion.
  • Assist in the development of Safety programs and training documents for the EHS department, as well as act as the lead for developing, auditing, preparing and assisting all departments with required training with regards to modifications to procedures or new procedures. Place these procedures in the approved document control systems.
  • Coordinate, facilitate, support/conduct employee safety training including but not limited to, new employee orientation, annual required re training, equipment certification (forklifts, overhead cranes, aerial lifts, yard trucks, etc.); site specific equipment training, and contractor orientation in accordance with corporate safety policy/OSHA regulations. Identify and Schedule all other training needs.
  • Audit the overall training of all plant personnel and ensure that the training and the actual work is as accurate as possible. Report the audit conditions to EHS and the respective departments to improve the overall training of all personnel.
  • Keep track of the facility safety training matrix to ensure ALL employees have completed required annual safety training and that it has been properly documented.
  • Assist, support and advise management and employees with corporate safety policy compliance & OSHA compliance.
  • Assist, support and advice management with incident reporting and investigation; which includes but is not limited to near misses, property damage, first aid, and OSHA recordable events.
  • Assist, support and advise management in developing corrective actions for incidents that will prevent reoccurrence, and follow up to ensure corrective actions have been implemented and are working.
  • Assist and support facility management in developing initiatives that will help motivate employees and cultivate the facility safety culture.
  • Monitor and assist the facility with analysis of safety initiatives and how it affects the overall facility safety performance, providing feedback to facility management.
  • Act as a Team lead for PSM audits, hazops and auditing hazop action items.
  • Participate in the Safety Steering Committee Meeting held monthly and report on the overall training and support.

Skills and Specifications

  • Strong working knowledge of environmental, health and safety policies and regulations.
  • Shall serve as ISO 14001 Management Representative assistant, performing all duties as assigned by the Management Representative.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills sufficient to design, deliver, and communicate training, rules and procedures.
  • Ability to self-motivate and take initiative and successfully execute action plans.
  • Knowledge of record keeping techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to work well with diverse personalities and cultures.
  • Ability to identify training needs among Associates and provide training.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Must have strong math, computer and analytical skills.
  • Ability to conduct audits.
  • Ability to respond quickly to incidents and take appropriate action to assure team members of their safety.
  • Ability to recognize and address potential safety hazards in a manufacturing environment.

Education and Qualifications

  • Three to five years of similar or related experience.
  • (1) Bachelor's degree, or (2) multi craft skills acquired through extensive on the job training or apprenticeship programs, or (3) in-depth industry and job specific technical skills acquired through a combination of formal instruction and on the job training.
  • Physical Chemical Wastewater Treatment Operator license, Class 'A' if required by state for operations of wastewater treatment facility.
  • Personal computer experience in Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint, required. Experience or education in providing training and auditing highly preferred.
  • This position involves working with technologies and information which are subject to U.S. export control regulations. Under these regulations, Toray CMA must review certain candidate information including citizenship, basis of United States work authorization and country of origin. This information would be used for export control screening purposes only.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Job tasks are usually performed in an office environment.

Position requires the ability to read, write, speak and understand English at a level necessary to successfully perform assigned responsibilities. Ability to utilize/operate a computer, peripheral equipment and appropriate software. Ability to utilize interpersonal and teamwork skills, perform basic mathematical computations, follow directions and to understand and apply work specifications in the completion of work tasks. The ability to hear, speak, use hands/fingers and the repetitive motions of hands/wrists are occasional. Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds. Vision abilities require the adjustment and focus of sight. Ability to be physically mobile. Ability to wear a respirator when performing inspections and/or investigations.
